The Doors @
Roseland Ballroom
- NYC, NY 4/24/03 |
We start of our journey at the New Brunswick train Station. We being myself and Bob of Nuse. It's a smooth ride and we are in the city in no time. We get off under the Garden and decide to walk to 52nd st. to the Roseland, it is a georgeous spring day and we are enjoying all the characters that N.Y. has to offer! We get to 52st. and decide to have a few beers at Flash Dancers. Once inside we enjoy some $10.00 beers and one of the girls asks me are you going to the Doors show it is one of the hardest tickets to get. I laugh and tell her I got my tickets a week after they went on sale. I thought the Doors would sell out right a way but it didn't happen that way. We go to the show it is suppose to start at 8.00 pm its now 8.40 and still no Doors . Then a huge picture of Jim Morrison appears the place is general admission and sold out the crowd goes crazy. The band starts to jam every body is excited. Ian Astbury of the Cult Is the new lead singer, he has a new hair cut and seems to look a lot like Jim in the early years. He is also done up in leather clothes. The Doors seem to have their show together and their sound is tight . As the show goes on Ian is doing all Jim's routine on stage the crowd is a little taken by this as there was only one Legend, Jim Morrision that perfected this routine. From 5to1 to Roadhouse blues the music was great. Ian has nailed all the vocals, but needs to do his own thing on stage. Robbie and Ray seem to have had a blast playing all their classics. This show rated on 1 to 10 was an 8. Ian Astbury is not Jim Morrision and should not be imitating his classic moves on stage. I under stand no one can fill the shoes of Jim ,but Astbury vocals were as close as you are going to get. He needs to do his own thing on stage and this show would be perfect. The next day I see on Cnn News that Jim's parents filed suit to stop The Doors from using their name. I agree . If you get a chanceThe Doors will be at the PNC Arts Center on August 23 rd. I will be there and hopeful by then Ian is doing his own ROUTINE! By Brandon Dilks Browse All Spotlight Reviews >> Interested in having your Review posted on SoM?
