Slayer & Hatebreed @ Roseland Ballroom - NYC, NY 10/18/03

This was the show I was waiting for since the end of the summer. We got into the city early and decided to walk down Broadway to the Roseland . When we got there was a line around the block to get in . I said fuck this I ain't waiting for a hour in line. So we started looking for a bar near the Roseland. Me and my buddy Steve Miller found one a few blocks away at Broadway and 55th street. An Irish bar called Mc Chesnee's. We went in and I was surprised how up scale this place was. It was real nice for city bar. We stayed for 2 hr's and went back to the Roseland. We missed "Dry Kill Logic" and Sweden's " Arch Enemy" but that was no big lose. On the way in I meet the boy's from "Hemlock" they just did 6 shows on the tour and "Dry Kill Logic" was playing in their spot. The guys seemed really cool and it was a pleasure to meet them. We got inside and I lost my buddy Steve within 2 min, I would not see him again that night. The Roseland was fuckin mobbed. I made my way to the bar along side of the stage.

Hatebreed take the stage at 8:30 the crowd was waiting to explode and they did. The pit was moving a little slow at first but not for long!! I decided to stay on the side of the stage away from the pit. I was about 25 feet from the stage and could see perfect. Slayers tour cabinets were right there and served as a perfect table for all my shit I had with me. Jamie's vocals were a little low I thought. The rest of the band sounded right on. They did a powerful set and the crowd loved ever minitue of it. They do a 45 minute set closing with "I will be Heard." They were promoting their new album "The rise of Brutality" and did one hell of a job in doing so. The crowd gave them a big hand as they went off stage.

The place is jammed packed if you move you'll lose your spot. Slayer takes the stage at 9:30. The place is going crazy and people are flying all over the place ,crowd surfing and moshing only like at a Slayer show. Slayer opens with "God Hates Us All" The stage is filled with old smoke machines that are pumping smoke out like a thick fog. There was such a build up for Slayer to come on and the people got what they wanted this show was powerful from start to finish . Every song Slayer played was a big hit . Some of the highlights were" Mandatory Suicide," "Jesus Saves," "Hallowed Point" and "Angle of Death." They played so many good ones it was hard to keep track of them . I decided to head out 10 min. early to beat the crowd and ran into Paul Booth I shook his hand and said hello and then made my way outside. Once outside I gave away about 20 Nuse cd's before leaving the Roseland. Slayer went off at 11:00 they played an 1 1/2 set. From a 1 to ten this show was a 10 1/2 . I did not see one person in the place that did not have a great time. As many of the people who follow the under ground music scene know Slayer Is the Fuckin King Of the Scene!
