Pearl Jam @
PNC Arts Center
- Holmdel, NJ 7/14/03 |
We start off down 287 to the parkway it is 5:00 pm rush hour traffic is lighter that usually we breeze right into the Artcenter. We hang out and have a couple of drinks before the show . We go into the arena at 7:10, Sleater Kitty a 3 piece girl band is playing . Their sound was off and they were nothing special. Their show highlight was Springsteen's "Promise Land." Pearl Jam could have picked a better opening act. It is now 8:50 the place is still half empty. This is the last tour date on the U.S. part of the tour!! Pearl Jam takes the stage, the crowd goes nuts. The back ground of the stage is intense there is a bunch of lights jumbled together to give the stage a cloudy effect. The first song is off the new album,I didn't catch the name of the song. Then they break into "Once" the place has quickly filled and the crowd is singing along with Eddie. They waste no time and break into " Even Flow" Their sound is right on and sounds incredible. Eddie was once considered one of the best singer in the industry. So far he's living up to this accomplishment. They break into"Escape" The place is humming with happiness. The crowd is getting their moneys worth tonight. My friend Don Cornelious is now drunk and lost I have not seen him in an hour and I am starting to wonder what happened to him. I find out later he snuck up to the first couple of rows for the entire show. The band goes off stage at 10:20 for an encore. It is alittle early I thought because they are playing to 11:00. Most of the shows I go to I know what time there going to end before the event , inside info I receive. Vetter breaks into "Nothing Man" the place is over flowing with cheers. Then he breaks into "I Wish." He blasts Bruce Springteens on stage I don't know what thatwas about, buts that's Eddie. He then does one off Springteens tunes "Rollin On" He does a couple more songs and then into " Alive." We decide to start to make our way out to beat the traffic. They close with "Hunger Strike." From 1 to 10 this show was an 8 . Pearl Jam sounded great and like they were never apart. For such a big act to have a shitty opening act like they did is unspeakable. With a better opening act this show would have been a perfect 10. Wake up Eddie you were once considered a big stage band, whose booking these opening acts anyhow?
