Review - Mike Rocket
@ The Time Has Reached The Future, 4/3/04 |
| This review is the 3rd I have done for Mr. Rocket within a years time and it seems like he has come up with yet another great cd. I reviewed this cd a little different... I went into NYC and caught Mike's cd release show at the legendary Bitter End on 10/29/04. So you might as well call this a cd/show review. When I first arrived at 7:45 pm the place was empty, within a 1/2 hour there was not a seat left in the place. Mike was suppose to go on at 8:00 pm and didn't take the stage until 8:30 I was a little bummed because I had prior plans for 9:00 pm at one of NYC biggest Halloween parties on Central Park West. Mike approached me and apologized for going on so late, he explained half of his friends were caught in midtown traffic and asked him to go on a little late. Mike gladly cut his set time so his friends would not miss any of the show. Hats of to Mike for this move most bands would have started playing anyhow and said screw my friend they'll be hear soon enough. From the minute Mike and his band took the stage Mike had a smile from ear to ear . They started their set with a song called "I'm the Guy." Mike has 7 other musicians backing him up and there ain't much room on the stage for anyone else. It looked a little crowed up there but again Mike was all smiles. The FUCKIN energy Mike performs with is second to none. From the first song I was blown away. The bands next song was "Outsides The Rain" and the Bitter End is now packed and everyone is having a great time. The next song they do is "To Girls in America," Mike's first track on the new cd. He wrote this song about his friends April & Angela and these must be special girls because the song is awesome. The next song was the title track "The Procrastinator" and is the best song on the cd. The emotion Mike performed this song with was scary. This was the first time I met him so I really don't know how to read him, but everyone in the room was blown away with the intensity of this song. This FUCKIN guy is a REAL performer and really shines on stage. The next track was "Francie," another solid song . Mike's band really takes his every lead and they are as tight as a glove. With out this line up I bet Mike would be lost. They break into a tune called "Close to You" and I started to get ready to head out to the Halloween party and was truly sore I would miss the rest of his set. Now back to the cd review. The cd is great don't take my word for it go to his website and see for yourself. I could not find one song that I didn't like on the cd. THIS FUCKIN MIKE ROCKET HAS DONE IT AGAIN. From a 1 to 10 this review gets a perfect 10. After seeing Mike live
I know this guy is for real and everyone should go out and catch some
of his up coming shows. The only downfall for the show review was the
Bitter End ripping everyone off with their $7.50 beers but that's not
Mike's fault and his POWERFUL STAGE PERFORMANCE earned him a perfect
10 for the show review.
