Metallica @ Continental Airlines Arena - East Rutherford, NJ 10/22/04

GodSmack came on at 7:30 pm sharp we didn't arrive until 8:00 so yes I missed most of GodSmack and I was super pissed . Not that they started on time that I got there late and missed a killer set from them. This band is awesome and put on a killer show so I was told by everyone around me and have seen them 3 times before I believe them. I caught their last song "I stand Alone" which was powerful and their sound was dialed in perfect, they played a 50 min. set.

Metallica comes on around 9:00 pm and as GodSmack did they played on a stage in the center of the floor. This is the first time I have ever seen a center stage @ the Meadowlands and I'll tell you what, they should do allot more of these set ups. Everyone had a killer seat and yes Metallica did have a revolving stage. Their set up was sweet and the only thing on stage was a drum kit, a few mic stands and monitors. (all the amps and speakers were hanging along the ceiling of the arena) Their sound was dialed in and they opened with "Blackened," then they went right into "Fuel" with explosions going on all over the stage you could fell the heat from shit load of bombs and fire streams on stage. The Meadowlands is sold out and the people are going nuts. The only bad thing about the show was they stop selling the $6.75 beers right before Metallica came on. I was in line and was not even able to get one to keep my little buzz going. The boys then go into "Wherever I May Roam" the stage revolves and the show is well under way. James has command of the set and band and he knows it. The next song was "King Nothing" and so far no old songs and I starting to wonder what the fuck is going on. The lights go dim and James comes on stage with an acoustic guitar along with his electric one and breaks into "Unforgiven." The crowd is loving the set so far it seems and Kirk. Lars, and Rob are really having a blast up there. They go right into "Saint Anger" and the crowd seems disappointed that their playing newer stuff. I dug it, it was the heaviest song so far. The stage revolves again and they finally do some old stuff like "Master of Puppets". Rob Trujillo starts sliding across the stage like a spider he is defiantly allot better bass player than Jason ever was and anyone could see that right away if they saw him live. He is a fuckin animal on the bass. They go off stage for an early encore and come back with "Disposable Hero's" Then they go into an arena sing along with with "Nothing Else Matters." James stirs it up a little going right into "Sad But True" and so far that's how I am feeling about their set. The go off for encore and it is now 11:15 and still no older shit. I am like here it comes and they go into a 15 min set. They left and come back on stage with massive explosions and go into "Enter Sand Man." I stick around to the end of this song and start to make my way out of the arena .

From 1 to 10 this show gets a 7. There set was nothing but mid-school Metallica there is nothing wrong with that but this is the 16th time I have seen Metallica and it was there weakest set ever. Metallica is one of the best bands ever but people want to hear that old shit boys.
